BaoFeng or Race Radios?
High Quality Race Radios (Land Mobile/Business Radios) like Icom and Kenwood are designed to transmit and receive for several hours per day. They are built to withstand the abuse we tend to dish out on our equipment in the racing and off-road recreation world.
When choosing a hand held radio, price can be a deciding factor for many. While we strongly discourage the use of BaoFeng radios for racing applications, they are a cost effective way to communicate short distances in low RF environments like the middle of the desert. Please do yourself and other short course racers a favor - these are not for use at the track in high RF areas like the spotter box. You will only frustrate yourselves and those around you with lower quality receivers and transmitters bleeding out to other frequencies and receiving on adjacent channels.
